This digital museum exhibit is the result of an eight page paper. It showcases the life of a young Anne Frank. It's compiled to teach the public about the hardships she faced as she hid from Nazi's for over two years of her life. The story is extremely heartbreaking, while also being motivating and breathtaking. I have always been really interested in the Holocaust and remember learning about Anne Frank and reading her diary in elementary school. It was one of my favorite topics to discuss. I had general knowledge about Anne and the Holocaust before, but that definitely expanded as I completed the project. I now realize more than ever the hardships that people went through during this time. It's unbelievable to me that this event even occurred in History. I'm really excited to teach this topic to my students one day. It's not only educational, but very moving as well. The courage and strength that Anne Frank had while hiding that comes out in her diary is incredible for such a young girl. I learned so much about Anne Frank and the Holocaust by doing this project that I can now expand and use in the classroom. I now have compiled pictures and videos to share with students as well.
I think sixth grade is the ideal age to teach Anne Frank to students so that they fully comprehend what is being taught. There are two third grade standards and one fifth grade that go along with the topic of Anne Frank and important historical events:
3.H.1.1 Explain key historical events that occurred in the local community and regions over time.
3.H.1.2Analyze the impact of contributions made by diverse historical figures in local communities and regions over time.
5.C.&G.2 Analyze life in a democratic republic through the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
National Curriculum Standards:
Knowledge and understanding of the past enable us to analyze the causes and consequences of events and developments, and to place these in the context of the institutions, values and beliefs of the periods in which they took place.
The development of civic competence requires an understanding of the foundations of political thought, and the historical development of various structures of power, authority, and governance. It also requires knowledge of the evolving functions of these structures in contemporary U.S. society, as well as in other parts of the world.
