The
quote above is from an eleven year old girl who endured through unimaginable times.
Anne Frank is a Jewish victim of the Holocaust, the most devastating time in history. On January 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany, and dictatorship began. Anne was only four years old at the time. Anne’s
family went into hiding in a secret annex of her father’s shop when the German
invasion began, to avoid being sent to camps and killed. The family hid for more than two years in the attic before they
were found by German officers. They were transferred to concentration camps as their worst nightmare came to life. Throughout the two years in hiding, Anne wrote her thoughts
and experiences down in her diary which would later be published. ("Anne
frank," 2010.) Her diary shows the strength and hardships
the Jews went through. Not only did Anne’s diary lend a voice for the fight for
human dignity, but it also made the world realize that people, not numbers,
were being killed. I think Anne Frank is a true hero. Her words will be kept
dear to our hearts as we remember and inform people about the struggles of the
Holocaust. The question that lingers in my head is why? Why did some people hate the Jews so much?
Why did others help hide the Jews, putting their lives in danger? Why would the world allow this to happen?
