On
August 4, 1944, everyone in the secret annex is discovered and arrested. The
Nazis receive word of the Frank family hiding and capture the family. After two
years of being in hiding and fearing being discovered, it happens. They are all
interrogated and then deported to concentration camps. Two of the helpers are
locked up in prison. The other two, one being Miep Gies, are free. The whole family was sent to concentration
camps across Germany. Anne and her sister were sent to Bergen-Belsen where they
died of typhus in March of 1945. Only several weeks later in April, the camp
was liberated. Her mom died in Auschwitch of starvation in January of 1945. Her
dad, Otto Frank, was the only survivor. (“Anne Frank”, 2010.)
The concentration camp, Auschwitch, was liberated by Russian soldiers on January 27, 1945. Unfortunately, too late for Anne's mom. Source: http://www.annefrank.org/en/Anne-Frank/Otto-returns-alone/Back-to-Amsterdam/
